Good morning all, it’s Friday, the end of the week and excitement on the horizon. This is the last weekend before seniors 2017 begin on Monday – looking forward to seeing what this class is going to be like. It is very interesting how each class has it’s own personality. Each seems to have its own flow and personality. You wouldn’t think that groups as large as each senior class would have this, but it is very true. I’ve noticed it with students coming into the studio, remarks from teachers and parents and administrators. Hopefully 17 is a class with lots of desire and drive.
People often ask me – how difficult is it to take portraits of someone that has more of a look of Lena Dunham as opposed to someone like a Katy Perry, etc. It is not what a person looks like that makes a great portrait, it’s the personality inside, the fire, the emotion. Everyone one has an inner beauty that can be brought out. Sometimes you need to dig a bit to find it – but reaching in and grasping that persons personality is something I treasure! It is a connection that can make a portrait not just a picture, but a memory of a place in time and age – it sounds a bit quirky – but that connection is what I live for, I guess that is why I’ve been doing this since college days at UT in the early 80’s.
Enough rambling for now – hoping everyone has a great weekend, we have a birthday and heading to Austin for an evening. Hook em’ all and be safe. All you bright eyed new seniors – I expect to see you on Monday with excitement in your eyes!!!!
